Trustees from the Buwan Kothi International Trust have seen significant progress in the development of the Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School during a month-long visit in September and October.
Working with the school’s Principal and Management Committee, BKIT has helped with guidance on new policies and procedures and sought to revitalise the school’s financial record systems. Trustees also met with the Assistant District Commissioner for Fatehbad district, which resulted in positive progress on connecting the school to broadband internet and providing photo-voltaic (PV) solar electricity cells. Both developments, when complete, will be paid for by generous donations from supporters of BKIT in the UK. In addition, the ‘Memorial Trees’ planting project begun in 2008 has taken an important step forward with plaques erected beside trees sponsored by a BKIT supporter.
As a result of the visit, the school now has its own website at www.gmmcs.in
As well as these more serious issues, trustees were also able to spend time meeting the children at the school, sitting in on classes and organising a creative photography project.
See below for photos from the visit.
BKIT supporters have organised a women’s pampering event on Sunday 20 November from 3pm to 6pm at the Sydni Centre in Leamington Spa, which offers threading, massages, mini manicures, pedicures and facials, henna, and more.
The event is also a chance to buy some unique Christmas presents, including candles, jewellery, card and bags. There will be a raffle, tombola, cakes and refreshments.
